Happy 4th of July friends! Yesterday I went to a bad-ass Rockabilly festival called the Hootenanny. The headlining acts for the event where Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis with other Rock N Roll bands that included Shooter Jennings and Nick 13. Unfortunately, the Killer, Jerry Lee Lewis didn’t make the show (word was he got sick), feel better Jerry! We missed Jerry but, I did have a great time rocking to the amazing 83 year young Chuck Berry. I was in awe of how youthful Chuck looked and performed, and felt I was watching evidence of the idea that one sure way to stay young is to do what you love. The Hootenanny was full of people dressed in retro 40’s and 50’s clothing and for fun I decided that I would jump right in and show the world my version of a 50’s PinUp. During the event I got my hair done in a classic 50’s style, purchased a corset and posed with some hot dames on some souped up classic cars. A Japanese film that tells the story of a man who lived his life as the loyal servant of a bureaucratic system mired by red tape so thick that time practically stood still and almost nothing ever got done. After being diagnosed with terminal cancer he finds himself examining what he did with his life. This movie makes my all time favorite, TOP 5  List. It is a must see. The director Akira Kurosawa is a master story teller and the performances are extraordinary. These are the kind of film makers and human stories that inspire and make me so excited about the new Arnold Sports Film Festival that will be launching in 2011.  Watch this movie and “Ikiru” anew my friends.   xoxo Denise

Arnolds Launches the First Sports Film Festival of its kind!

The Arnold Sports Festival and Ideas United have announced the first-annual Arnold Sports Film Festival will be held March 4-6, 2011 in Columbus, Ohio, in conjunction with the Arnold Sports Festival.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, co-founder of the Arnold Sports Festival, will be among the celebrity juries who pick the festival winners. The festival’s grand prize winner will be awarded a trip to visit Schwarzenegger on a Hollywood movie set.

The Arnold Sports Film Festival will be committed to the discovery, nurture and presentation of the best short-form international filmmaking focused on personal athletic endeavor.

The Anold Sports Film Festival will also complement and extend the largest multi-sport event in the world — founded in 1989 by Schwarzenegger and Jim Lorimer — and will build on the Arnold Sports Festival’s decades-long commitment to celebrating achievement in individual sport and athletic competition.

Produced in partnership with Ideas United – the Atlanta-based creators of Campus MovieFest (CMF), the world’s largest student film festival – the ASFF will seek films and filmmakers who explore the journey, perseverance, and triumphs of individuals who participate in athletic expression and competition.

Filmmakers of all ages will be invited to submit films less than 15 minutes in length to the ASFF in a variety of categories including narrative, documentary, animated, and broadcast films. The films should explore the lives, efforts, inspirations, and hopes of people striving for achievement in individual athletic pursuits ranging from bodybuilding to boxing, gymnastics to judo, table tennis to weightlifting, grappling to skateboarding.

The Arnold Sports Film Festival encourages both traditional and alternative storytelling, combining creativity and excellence in cinema with the drama of athletes determined to be the very best. In addition, Ideas United will bring the ASFF to more than 50 colleges, universities and high schools as part of Campus MovieFest. CMF provides students with everything they need to create short movies for free and will extend the ASFF reach to more than 100,000 college students.

The ASFF will be held at the Arena Grand Movie Theater in downtown Columbus.

ASFF Guidelines and Information

The Arnold Sports Film Festival will be open to all film makers and will accept films 15 minutes or less that focus on the athletic endeavors and motivations of the individual athletes.

Programming categories will include narrative, documentary, animation and professional broadcast.

Submissions to the Arnold Sports Film Festival will open in July 2010.

The benefits of stretching

I believe that challenging yourself a little each day is an essential part of growth and success in life.  Regardless of how well you do, or even if you fail, it’s important to challenge yourself because in the end, you always get something good out of each challenge. Today, I recommend that you challenge yourself  by doing 15 to 30 minutes of stretching exercises. And then do it again tomorrow. Ugh, ohh, mmmm, hey that actually feels really good,  is what I’m guessing you will say.  For me, stretching helps me deal with tight muscles and stress release, and is actually very erotic. All you have to do is remember to breath nice, long deep breaths to help your muscles relax as you stretch.  Even though I am posting a sexy picture of me stretching with this post (to help motivate some of you),  I’m serious about the benefits of stretching. The truth is, stretching promotes better circulation and we all know how good that is for maximum blood flow and volume 😉  Wishing you the wealth that is good health.  xoxo Denise Masino
