Since hurricane Irma I have been spending time working on clearing down trees and getting “farm strong” as one of my friends would say. All in all I have been making good progress but this week I got introduced to some poison Ivy or poison Oak. The mark on my leg looks like a lip print but it is itchy as hell. Too bad I couldn’t get a kiss from the hot and sexy DC super villain Poison Ivy. That would have been hot!

When life throws a monkey wrench your way, pick it up and use it to fix something you need and make it work for you. No matter what happens you have the power to respond in a way that works for you and helps you keep moving forward. I had a crazy family crisis this week but I’m happy to report that we are still moving forward and I hope you are too.
This March pin-up girl dates from 1953 and was painted by George Petty.
From 1933 to 1956, the “Petty Girl” was seen on tens of millions of calendars, magazine centrefolds, advertisements, posters, and billboards as well as on all sorts of specialty products. In 1950, “The Petty Girl” even became a major motion picture.
See also the George Petty galleries at The Pin-up Files.

3.5 weeks after Hurricane Irma passed and things are starting to look better around here. We are still loaded with lots of construction debris, damage and home repairs that still need to be done. Our neighborhoods are loaded with fallen trees and limbs that haven’t been removed yet, but we are making major progress. What do you say we meet up on Tuesday for a live cam show?

The recovery process is well underway following Hurricane Irma. We finally got power back but the work has been intense and ongoing!
The bottom line is we are very lucky we didn’t get hit harder than we did. And after spending weeks on the road, staying with friends and family I realize that the real power in this situation is human power. This time with my family has given me an opportunity to help my parents with some pretty big home projects and I am grateful for that. Thank you for the ongoing love, emails and good wishes. We have to stick together to help Texas, Puerto Rico, Mexico and all of the Islands that have been hit by so many natural disasters in these last few weeks. Follow me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for more info on my crazy day to day and remember that now matter what you are going through you can work it out.

The amount of damage to the trees was a surprise. I didn’t know what to expect but seeing so many huge old trees toppled was a shock. This was the effect of a Cat 2 or 3 hurricane, I can’t imagine what would have happened had it made landfall as a Category 5. My home still has no power but we started the clean up process at my parents house. The weather is so hot that we are working in shifts.
Right now the name of the game is Cut, Clear, Repeat!

Heading south how good it is to see the Florida welcome sign that says “open for business.” All along the way we share the road with truckers moving heavy machinery and supplies into the state to help. Our military and trucks from our North American neighbors –Toronto, Canada are part of our journey. My butt hurts from hours of driving
but how cool it is to see all this movement towards helping each other. I wish I could thank every one of these truck drivers!

Sitting in the now empty hotel dining room watching the news from Birmingham, Alabama. This place was packed with people who evacuated Florida. Many have started their journey back home. When I start getting frustrated about feeling stuck because I want to see what has happened to my home and I want to help, I stop myself and count my blessings instead. We don’t want to add to the problems that already exist in my area by taxing already stretched resources, so I am staying in Alabama for a little while longer. People are dealing with no power, sweltering heat, no water, fuel shortages and loss of food because of no refrigeration. My family and friends are all safe and nothing else matters. For now I am in Alabama taking one day at a time.
Thank you for your kind messages of encouragement and your love. I appreciate your emails and your social media messages. I’m doing good, life is good and you are all an incredible source of positive energy for me. The power you share with me is the power I will be sending back out into the world, so that others who need it can share in it too. Stay tuned for what’s next, the adventures continue.
Love and Gratitude xo Denise

Birmingham, Alabama is a beautiful town. The architecture and old buildings constructed in the early and mid 1900’s are amazing to look at. It’s an old steel industry town with railroads, smoke stacks, old bottling companies, factories and lots of history.
I don’t really know much about it and honestly never thought I would find myself here — but here I am. Although the people are friendly and kind, and I want to find a way to enjoy this visit I really can’t. I’m really only here because of Hurricane Irma. I’m currently waiting for her to pass through my world and praying that she leaves the most important parts of my life intact and safe from her wrath.
I need my family and my friends and my neighbors to survive Irma. I can’t imagine it any other way.
