I’m glad I got to see Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan in “Creed” on the silver screen today. It was the perfect way to take a few hours break away from my own training and from the office. I loved watching the chemistry between Jordan and Stallone and I think this movie delivers some of Sylvester’s finest acting moments ever. I am a fan of quiet moments in films that allow us to simply feel things and I love that the director let us have those emotional moments.
I love this movie for a lot of reasons, but I’m going to keep my post to the most inspirational points the movie made for me. First of all Philadelphia looks like parts of Brooklyn, New York where I grew up and the old gritty looking gyms are a place I have called home for over 30 years so I love that. Then there is the old school training that Rocky delivers with a one two punch that makes me nostalgic. The movie is heroic in its message that old fashion hard work and dedication is something everyone can tap into. In the best Rocky movies we get to root for the working class hero. We connect with his friends and family from the neighborhood and we see the uphill battle he’s fighting and we know that sometimes life is a fight. We watch him defy the odds by working really fucking hard and that’s how he becomes our hero. Congrats on the Oscar nomination Sylvester you earned it.
