I know I told you I was feeling better, but I just got back from the doctors office and found out that the my cold has somehow opened the door for an ear infection. OK, so maybe I went back to the gym a little too fast. I guess I’m back to being a good girl 🙁

Denise Monkeys around I was born in the year of the Monkey and I love to have fun, but that’s not really why I decided to post these pictures today. I like staying up on current events and I like watching news shows like, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report, Countdown with Keith Olberman and Hardball with Chris Matthews to name a few. I’ve come to realize that you have to keep a sense of humor about the crazy things you hear and see on a day to day basis, and so these shows suit me. So now to my point, the origin of the three monkeys; Hear no evil, See no evil, Speak no evil is known as a lesson of sorts on how to act and perhaps even a symbol of what one should focus on not doing. But isn’t it true that an even greater sin just might be to not recognize when evil or bad things are happening. Does this picture remind you at all of our current economic crisis? Or is it just me? 🙂

DGA Awards show…what a night!

Even though I was sick most of last week, I was feeling well enough to be able to go to the Directors Guild of America Awards show last Saturday 🙂  Staying home all week proved to be a very smart move, because I didn’t want to miss this event. The star studded evening was filled with an incredible line up of actors, directors and assistant directors for both film and television. Needless to say, it was a real honor and a pleasure to be around the very best and brightest stars of the movie business. These are the people that make movie magic. The shows host was the very funny and very entertaining Jon Cryer, best known for his television hit show, Two and a Half Men. In attendance were Sean Penn, Jodie Foster, Christian Bale, Michael Sheen, Frank Langella and Marisa Tomei to name a few of the amazing actors. Danny Boyle won the best director award this year for his beautiful film Slumdog Millionaire (if you haven’t seen it, you should). The other amazing director nominees in attendance included Ron Howard who directed Frost/Nixon, Gus Van Sant who directed Milk, Christopher Nolan who directed Dark Night and David Fincher, who directed The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. And, as if all of that wasn’t enough excitement for one evening, the shows real highlight was actually a heart felt tribute, and honorary lifetime membership to the DGA that was presented to Roger Ebert. The man and the movie critic known the world over, that could arguably be called the director’s greatest friend or biggest foe. Diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2002, Roger Ebert has spent the last 6 years battling medical issues that cost him his ability to speak without using a computerized voice that he now uses. In a speech written by Roger and delivered by his wife Chaz, Roger said “The movies come closer than any other art form in giving us the experience of walking in someone else’s shoes. They expand us, they improve us, and sometimes they ennoble us. They also thrill us and make us laugh and cry, and for that gift, and for this honor tonight, I am very grateful”. This was the dedication and the speech that illuminated the experience and inspired the audience to their feet. It was an ovation that is representative of Roger Ebert’s dedication and appreciation of the DGA members craft. What a night! @{——— Denise
